My friend Gigi came up with the name, The Quarter Inch when I was trying to think up names for a quilt shop. Yes - it is my dream to open a quilt shop. Not sure if life will ever get me there - but one can hope. I decided to name my sewing blog the Quarter Inch instead. It was my nemesis when I learned how to quilt. I mean really, what was so important about making sure that all my seams measure a quarter inch.
ALOT - as I found out when I started longarm quilting. Now, it is my friend. I have a quarter inch foot and I make sure that I keep my seams consistent. When I was in TX earlier this year, I started sewing Henrietta Whiskers on her machine and she does not have a quarter inch foot. I kept going and when I got home to attach my borders, I realized that my quilt was 3/4 of an inch longer and wider on one side. Argh! I did a lot of sliver trimming and measuring and working in the next 3 borders in order to get it back to square. Phew!
It's hard to understand how important it is sometimes - but I'm glad I did!
Here is a sneak peek of Henrietta. The sun happened to come into my space at the just the right time and I got a couple of pics. I'll get more when she is finished. I have her all embellished and the hanging sleeve and binding is on - I just have to hand sew it to the back and then I can take more pictures.
Have a great weekend! You know what I will be doing today - binding and cleaning out the garage. HeeHee! Take care, Richla
