Pantry Packs

Good Morning everyone!  My hardwood floors are almost done and I might be able to get back into my house this Sunday!  Yeah!  I did manage to get a little bit of sewing done this week and I also got to get in alot of volunteer hours at my daughter's school.  One of the things I volunteered for this past week is Pantry Packs.  Have you heard of this program?  When I got there and understood what they were all about it almost broke my heart.

In a nutshell, the students at Wilder Elementary pack 40 bags of food each week which the School Social Worker takes to Dickinson's elementary.  These bags of food are given specifically to their kindergartner's who do not have enough food to eat over the weekend.  The social worker told us over half of the kindergartners this year are living in shelters.  I'm tearing up right now as I am writing this.

The neat thing is that the kids at Wilder take turns skipping their recess each week to pack these bags and they also color them a pretty picture and note for each bag.  The Pantry Packs Program is in need of donations of food to help fill these bags, so I have decided to make a new special for all of my loyal and wonderful customers.  If you bring one of the listed items below (Costco quantity if possible) when you pick up or drop off your quilt, I will give you a $10 discount off your quilting service.

I know this may seem like a small request but at this point I can not imagine putting one of those Kindergartners on a bus home for the weekend without a bag of food/treats.  Hope you all have a great weekend and thanks for indulging me on this post.  The list of needed items is below:

Instant Oatmeal packets
Carnation Instant Breakfast packets
Applesauce/fruit cups (individually packaged)
Microwave popcorn
Individually packaged snack crackers (goldfish, PB sandwich, etc)...anything sized for a lunch box
Fruit snacks
Small boxes of cereal
Fruit Juice Boxes
Halloween Candy

They also have a wish list on Amazon where you can order from:  The items are delivered directly to the school.  And you can set up a recurring order if you choose.  They also have a Facebook page:!/pages/Wilder-Wolf-PACK/210275142397881.

Take care!   I'll be back to "kwilting" next week!  Woo Hoo!

  1. Thank you, Richla, for letting us know of this need in our community. There's probably a women's shelter near Dickinson. This is the time of year when we take account of our blessings and mind the needs of others, and the shelter kids need to feel warm, fed and secure. Mr. Merte and I have donated some Mac & Cheese!
